Hello! Finally I can make a proper review post for May Coop Raw Sauce! I actually have tried the mini size of this raw sauce a long time ago and I didn't take any photos nor make a review about it. Several weeks ago, I got lucky by winning the May Coop Raw Sauce from Jolse for review purposes, so this time I got a chance to make a review post! Keep reading :)
What it is?
Raw sauce is a gentle toner, emulsion, and essence in one (known as hybrid/3-in-1 product) that intensively hydrates and nourishes the skin. What makes Raw Sauce special is that it is made with 93% maple tree sap, skin-nourishing fructan powder (eco-cert certified) and Asian herbal and fruit extracts to achieve the appearance of more hydrated and dewier skin. -source: peachandlily.com
Highlight:
- Uses maple tree sap as the base for better absorption
- Formulated with unique botanical, herbal, and floral complexes to nourish and promote radiance
- Packed with antioxidant-rich ingredients to combat damaging free-radicals
According to Alicia Yoon from popular Korean beauty site Peach & Lily, the molecules of maple tree sap are smaller than water so they are absorbed much more easily into the skin.
Ingredients?
Acer Mono Sap, Alcohol, Glycerin, Peg-8, Sea Water Maris Aqua (sea Water), Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Water, Betula Alba Bark/leaf Extract, Castanea Sativa (chestnut) Bark Extract, Olea Europaea (olive) Fruit Extract, Pinus Sylvestris Bark Extract, Ribes Nigrum (black Currant) Fruit Extract, Vaccinium Vitis-idaea Fruit Extract, Vitis Vinifera (grape) Fruit Extract, Triticum Vulgare (wheat) Flour Extract, Oryza Sativa (rice) Extract, Zea Mays (corn) Germ Extract, Glycine Soja (soybean) Seed Extract, Oryza Sativa (rice) Bran Extract, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Methylparaben, Carbomer, Arginine, Panthenol, Creatine, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Fructan Powder, Disodium Edta, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Parfum, Sodium Hyaluranate, Ci 15510
Volume: 150 ml
How to use?
After cleansing and toning, apply to face and neck in upward and outward strokes with your fingertips or a cotton pad. Pat remaining product into skin until fully absorbed.
For me, I always apply it with my hand since it delivers heat from my body for the even better absorption and not wasting any product. I never use essence with cotton pad.
Packaging
Talking about the packaging, the 150 ml version is pretty heavy since the bottle is made from glass and it's risky and not travel friendly, but that's the reason May Coop comes up with the travel version, even though still glass bottle. The glass is not really clear, cloudy-like but you can still see how much essence left. I like the idea of wood for their packaging, I guess it's because their main ingredient "maple tree" they use a wood print instead other design which I think it's unique! But you can't see any product detail on the packaging in English, so it's a bit hard for me to read hahaha.
The essence itself is sealed with a plastic cap (see photo) you need to pull before opening. The hole is tiny (see photo) but it does not annoy me because I just need to shake two to three times and I already got the amount I need.
Ah one thing, when I got the package from Jolse, it also comes with a fabric case, how nice!
Performance
Well, you see that watery-essence texture? It contains hydration your skin needs!
Several years ago, this raw sauce was really hit even in my country, Indonesia, raw sauce was really booming and skincare enthusiasts were curious about the product, so did I hahaha. I think because it claims as a 3-in-1 in one product, supposed to make skin radiant and glowing and it was overwhelmed the whole skincare world as a cult find. But does it really worth it?
The light-browned essence has its consistency and has a nice refreshing sweet smell. The smell is kinda strong in my opinion and I would love this more if they put less fragrance into it. For the essence, my combination skin is liking it this far, it's lightweight and perfect for minimal skincare routine during the day. You just need to pat all over your face (by the way, it needs several pats until it fully absorbed) and continue sealing it with a moisturizer and of course it gives you glowing healthy look.
To be honest, I don't expect anything and I can't say any "wow" effect since it claims to only hydrate and nourish your skin and the hydration is just ok (I guess for drier skin you will need extra hydration. But again, depends on your skin. You need to try first to know how it reacts.). Combination skin will benefit for its hybrid (for efficiency of minimal skincare routine) yet giving you that natural glow, while for oilier skin, if you want a more matte finish, you can use matte moisturizer afterwards or set with matte powder. I would say it's good as a makeup base since it gives you that glow and also smooth canvas.
Well in short, it's a great hybrid product for quick skincare routine but not my top favourite hybrid product. I prefer using this as an essence on top of my toner to help boost the hydration, but I can't linger on only Raw Sauce to give me hydration my skin needs. So whom will benefit from this product? If your skin is normal-combination yet slightly dehydrated, this one is for you.
How much does it cost? USD 27.95 and it's on sale! Hurry up!

Thank you so much Jolse for providing this product. I hope the review will be helpful.
*PS: This review is based on my personal experience, all opinions are not influenced by the brand. But again, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).
